The New Year's Food Budget 2012...can it be achieved?!

3 days ago started the 2012 new years budget as I begin paying bills marked due by 2012 and purchased food for the up coming week. I gave myself the budget of $50 to feed my family of 5 for the week. So far for week number one I have managed to do this. I also gave myself a budget of $30 instead of about $100 for the family new years celebration and yes I managed to hold up to that too and did I cut corners?... why yes I did but honestly no one even noticed the menu was down sized to fewer choices but bigger proportions.

The menu for the celebration is.
English muffin pizzas
mini cupcake pan quiches (broc and cheddar and spinach and swiss.)
pig in a blanket
and over loaded potato skins.
For a fancy punch for the kids is fruit juice with ginger ale to make it bubble

Our weekly menu for meals is ...

Breakfast -
pancakes with fresh fruit,
oatmeal with fresh fruit,
eggs and toast
yogurt with granola and fruit
homemade bagels with homemade jam and peanut butter
milk or OJ

Lunches-
 left overs
ham or bologna sandwiches with cheese.
soup and salad
homemade cookies or rice krispie treats
 fresh fruit
carrot and celery sticks
drinks.

Dinner -
Monday- roasted chicken. mash potatoes and carrots
Tuesday - Chicken and Broc Alfredo.  (using some of the left over chicken) and a salad and bread
Wednesday - Meat loaf, peas, mash potatoes
Thursday - Over stuffed, double baked potatoes with broc. cauliflower, cheddar cheese, chicken from the roasted one and bacon. and salad

A New Beginning...2012!

As I sit here thinking of things I would like to chance like, money, relationships, organization to be better and more I am reminded of the things I can not change like my battle with cancer is not over and I have 7 weeks Monday thru Friday of radiation still.

I only hope God gives me the strength and the knowledge to continue with my life and the wonderful ways he has taught me to be with friends and family. My relationship with my husband has never been better in both worldly love and spiritually!

One of the biggest chances that will effect us the hardest is living up to the no credit way of life that God has expressed many times over to be a sin. If that means to live without then that is what God wishes.

I am actually looking forward to a more 1950's way of life then I have been trying to live already.

I hope you all follow along while we go through this very hard process in this 2012 way of life. The outside world with it's un-Godly influences can be strong at times and that is where our strength and prayers will come in handy. You can pray for us too in that we can stay focus and on track. That would be greatly received. <3

Today I started with cleaning out the bill file and setting it all up for a cash only way or life and recording for 2012. I was even able to apply a small amount of money into the savings and on a credit card.  I am hoping to not only build up the savings but take care of all the credit cards once and for all this year.

I have also asked hubby and I will do the same, to record all daily expenses to be reviewed and tracked. This will help with keeping track of un-necessary spending and possible spur of the moment spending because you will think twice before writing it down... at least I know I will.

Well enough said and I hope you follow along like I requested as we go through daily scheduling of chores and money debt recovery and crafts and baking and much much more!

Do not forget to take time with the Lord today and write your blessings and I am thankfuls  in your journal. even the smallest things are Blessings in Life!

Tidy Tips...How To Organize Your Inexpensive Jewelry

Tidy Tips...
How To Organize Your Inexpensive Jewelry

I love to find flea market, yard sale, thrift store and clearance priced jewelry. But I hate having it all tangled up or not even remembering what I have in my draws and boxes to match my thrifty outfits. This is also not being responsible and respectful of your money and your items. It doesn't matter how much it was it still needs to be respected and cared for.

I don't have a huge collection but I do enjoy having it all out like a store to see what I have at a glance. But how can I get that without spending a lot of money. Seriously have you seen the price tags on those custom organizers.

Well my husband found the best way for it and not only did it fit my needs but my closet and my budget. He is an amazing and wonderful man!

In one day he cut a piece of peg board (the kind with holes in it)  to fit a weird space on my closet wall that was doing nothing but just waisting space. He carefully cut it to fit and screwed it up with two small pieces of wood to mount behind it to create a space for the hooks to hang behind the holes.

Now, I carefully purchased from Lowe's and carefully figured which hooks I needed to hang what I owned. I bought ones for bracelets and earrings and long necklaces and shorter ones.  I was even lucky to have found two basket like holders that could hold my sunglasses and huge bangles.

Now when I get dressed it's fun and I totally look forward to accessorizing.

It's a great feeling to be organized and the time saved it awesome!

D.I.Y. - Kitchen Scouring Pad Bird In a Nest Christmas Ornament

Kitchen Scouring Pad Bird In a Nest Christmas Ornament

First you will need.
A glue gun and some glue sticks,
 a metal scouring pad,
 a clothespin and
a craft bird and a few leaves.
(this is a cluster/branch with all of it already attached)

I separated the cluster/branch to see what I had to work with.

Then generously apply the hot glue.

Add the leaves and berries the way you like them to the center of the nest. The bird will hide the center of the unfinished ends.

Glue the bird on with a generous amount of hot glue in the middle of the nest and on top of the unfinished ends.

Apply hot glue down the side of the clothespin.

Glue clothespin sideways to the underside of the bird nest so it will clip on to your tree branch with the bird facing you.

And there you have it!

Thrifty Thursday

Thrifty Thursday... Furniture Find

After many years of one dog and 3 children it was time for a new couch, but a new couch was not in the budget. So we decorated a can with couch pictures cut from flyer's and started to save. A dollar here, five dollars there and even a few coins started to fill the couch can. My husband would say often to us " Why to you torture yourself like this? At that rate is it worth it? That will take you years to save for?" But I didn't mind and neither did the kids who helped me decorate the can.

Well while yard sailing, which is a staplein afrugal family way of life and one of our favorite weekend family events to do and  not with out our wish list that we make in hand so we stay on track with items we need and want, my daughter spots a very pretty Victorian style couch. We pull over and it was in perfect and like new condition. The owner claimed that it just sat in the formal living room. I tell my daughter she could ask how much it was being sold for but do not get her hopes up. It was way to nice to fit our budget and the little amount that was saved in our can. Well she came running back excited and told me the price. I could not believe it. I thought she was WRONG! I told she she was mistaken but to my surprise I WAS MISTAKEN! She was 100% correct.

Are you all ready for the price of this thrifty find! Drum roll please...........................

$25!

Yup that's it! SOLD! We brought it home and it fit perfectly in my living room and all 5 of us fit on it!
 God is good!

What did we do with our old couch and love seat. Well we donated it to a family that was happy to have it that had nothing.

Don't forget to write in your journals during your time with God and count your blessings.
He provides all that you need and his timing is perfect and in his terms.

Set Your Goal. Step one.

Have you ever sat back and just looked around at your home and thought of your life and how it ended up? Do you like it or not? Do you just like some of it and dislike the rest? If you have not thought about it then take some time and just do that.

When I did this I learned that God has placed me in a wonderful marriage with great children. I am able to be a stay at home mother and wife, which I truly adore this lifestyle. But, I am unhappy with the way my house tends to be unkempt. That my ability to let go of the clutter is to difficult  for me. It's like a big black hole sucking me in and draining me of life. It causes arguments with my husband. It causes me to be a hypocrite to my children when I ask them to clean their rooms. It causes me to feel embarrassed and to lie by making up excuses to help "  please excuse the mess" which is a sin. It even causes me to be stressed out and late for events.

This is not what I want! I want to feel happy, comfy and content in my home as well as I know you do too!

But how can this happen? How can I create a home environment that is welcoming,, clean, organized and still have time to sleep and breath?

Well it's easy, I just keep telling myself over and over again. " You need to take baby steps and let it all go that you don't need all these things to simplify and organize." Like the Little Engine that could " I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can..."

I will do this! You can follow along as I break down each area of a mother's daily life, a homemaker's daily life, a wife's daily life. a woman's daily life and a Godly daily life.

To Become More Magnetic to Money...Is That Possible?

Mending The Money Purse

As I read my daily lesson in Simple Abundance I stopped to ponder on a quote. " A lean purse is easier to cure than endure."  Hmmmmm So what does that mean and how can I apply that to my life. " My purse is already lean". We live paycheck to paycheck on a single salary with 3 kids. We live in a small house and cut every corner we can find and do without so much already. Lately hubby has taken many days off with no pay to care for our family the last few weeks as I battle an illness that has landed me many times in the hospital. How much leaner could my purse possibly get!

As I read on I read that Babylon was famous for it's fortune because it's people as well as their king were rich, enjoying a level of personal wealth beyond our contemporary comprehension. This was due to the knowledge of the laws of prosperity was available to everyone. And many almost all of these laws can be found right in the Bible too!

The man - made laws of  money created by the Babylonians were way simple and they still apply to us today even over 8,000 years later.
They are regular savings and sharing. controlling expenditures. living debt free, increasing prosperity through prudent investments, protecting the bulk of your wealth from loss, owning property, establishing a future income for old age and increasing the ability to earn money through preseverance.

Sounds easier said then done to me, right?

First step though was to " start thy pures to fattening'. They suggested taking no less than 10% of ones earning and claiming it as one's own. This money was to be kept in a purse that was worn at the waist. The purpose of this purse was to act as a magnet to money, endowing it's owner with a feeling of financial security as it grew fatter. As it grew to heavy to wear they would transfer the money into a larger savings chest and used it for lending, trading, acquiring property or making investments. But a portion of money was to always remain in the purse to attract more money.

While in this day of age I don't recommend caring large amounts of money on you like that but creating a money magnet is a great psychological way to jump start a sense of financial serenity if your worried about money even though God will provide. A money magnet is not a saving account. It is an addition to the money you put in to that account. It's some thing that you keep to remind you to save and not spend. It's something you can not spend or would not want to spend easily like a $100 bill. Your less likely to break that and spend it then a $5 or a $20. Then adding additional $100 bills to your collection or your purse.

It's a great tool to remind us that abundance must occur in our minds before it can manifest itself in our lives. So we can begin to share and do great things with it.

How will you apply this now to your life? What is your money magnet gonna be?

I am going to write down a goal I would like to achieve, my fat purse amount and write it out on a brightly colored index card in bold red ink and keep it with me!

Write or comment on how you are going to apply this to our life and what your money magnet will be and share with us as we go along together and eliminate our debt.

I would love to hear from you all!

Don't forget to have your quiet time with the Lord and to write in your prayer journals!

Apron Evangelism

Apron Evangelism
philosophies on the pleasure & power of aprons

One day not too long ago I was struggling with the boys over some minor details which come up when a lot of people live in a small shack in the woods. Details like the value of picking one's dirty clothes up off of the living room floor when company has been spotted driving up the mountain. The boys were unusually stubborn that particular day. Rather than fight with them over their household responsibilities I picked up the dirty clothes myself and crammed them into the washing machine. I ran some soapy water in the sink to get a start on the dishes before the company arrived.

Now usually I am not one to hold a grudge over small disagreements like laundry on the living room floor. This one settled in my brain though, and I felt compelled to mull over it for several days. It was the outright insubordination which offended me the most. After I figured that out I went in search of solutions.

About the same time I was in the process of Spring Cleaning. I was having a great deal of trouble motivating myself to wash the walls in the kitchen and mop the back porch where the cats live (blessedly with a doggie door so they don't need litter boxes).

Well, the more I worried about these twin dilemmas the more I felt the need to discuss them with the queen of solutions, my momma Darthulia. As I suspected she had the perfect solution. Darthulia told me I needed a uniform or costume which would reassure myself and others of my intention and status in the home. She claimed it would remind me of my duties, inspire me to greater levels of cleanliness (which as a hillbilly I sorely need), and reaffirm my authority in the home.

Darthulia then went on to describe the homemaker's uniform to me in detail. "Imagine the modern archetype of the housewife." She began. "Think Donna Reed, or Beaver Cleaver's mom. They wore full skirts, and stockings, and heels when they vacuumed. But you knew they were doing housework because they had their aprons on. A string of beads graced the necks of their classic shirtwaist dresses, and a lacy bibbed apron proclaimed their role as matriarch in charge of household management."

I only have a fleeting memory of Donna Reed. I sort of wish she came on television regularly so I could take notes but she doesn't in my area so I am stuck looking for other heroines-of-the-home to model myself after. Most of what momma said made sense to me though. That very day, I put on a full skirt, stockings, sensibly low high heeled shoes, and a string of pearly white beads. Then I sat down at my sewing machine and ran up a couple of bibbed aprons, decorated with lace and ribbons.

I made up the pattern as I went along using a small rectangle for the first bib and a heart shape for the second bib. Then I stitched lace around the edges of the bib and attatched it to a simple tie with a full apron skirt gathered to the waist. I made them short waisted so they would fit my maternal figure a bit better, and voila, I was set. I put the first apron on, a creamy white or ecru, and looked in the mirror to admire my handiwork. I expected to see myself staring back at me, probably looking a little silly in this frilly piece of confection designed to protect my clothing.

Boy howdy, was I in for a surprise. In the mirror I saw a vision of the homemaker I have always strived to become staring back at me. Her cheery face glistened in the sunshine. Her hair tied up neatly in bun looked authoritative, and compassionate all at the same time. The apron covered several figure flaws and accentuated the fertile curves of the woman I saw in the mirror. This woman had purpose. She had status. She had clout. I stood there, contemplating the wonder of the homemaker that shone through my image in the mirror. "This is who I want to be" I told myself. "This is the Keeper of the home, with a capital 'K'. "

I wear my aprons every day now. I have made more, in different colors and configurations so as to be pleasing to my senses. I have come to believe they are a like lacy bits of lingerie, only worn on the outside, and a quite a bit more respectable. When I put on my aprons the children mind me better, wandering visitors immediately know my role as a stay at home mom. Door to door religious missionaries assume I am a virtuous woman and cheerfully move on to the next house. Fred thinks I look cute as a button, and neighbor children hug me more often.

I like my aprons. They have changed my life, raising my standards, inspiring me to greater feats of home making skill, and making me more effective as a parent. Whoever thought that a dollars worth of fabric and lace could effect so many changes on one woman and one family? Since my success with aprons I have become a true believer. I am now called to spread the word among my fellow housewives. Join the crusade by sharing your love of aprons with friends, family and internet buddies around the world. Together we will change the face of the House Wife, the world over.
